I've had this demo around for quite awhile. Miriam and I workshopped it a bit during the Small City Mayor/Fuzzy Futures days, but we never committed to it. We struggled with the use of "sit there like a bitch and take it" and how it would be perceived to have a privileged, white male singing that. In the context of the song and the perspective of the "narrator", it makes sense and I think is not offensive (using the language of the abuser against them), but in a live performance or anyone hearing the song for the first time, we felt it would be rough. I never resolved that until recently when I just realized it was so insignificant and switching it out with "sit there like a punk and take it" was way less potentially offensive and didn't really change the narrative or impact of the lyrics one bit. I don't have a recording of that with the new lyrics up yet, but I'm working on a new arrangement. Give this Drive some Creative Energy if you want me to build a Ship around it.
